Open Hydrant is making theatre history! We are the first professional AEA ensemble based theater company in the South Bronx. EVER!
Founded by Luis Reyes Cardenas, Sarah Rosenberg (stars of Showtime's documentary Shakespeare High - (www.shakespearehigh.org) and Deborah Pautler, Open Hydrant is an AEA professional theatre company whose goals are to help vitalize the arts and theater scene in the theatrically under-served community of Hunt's Point, and to make professional theater more accessible and affordable for the community. We are an ensemble based company of actors, directors, playwrights, producers and artists ready to connect the New York traditional theatre audience with the culturally diverse South Bronx audience. By bridging these two together, we can create a whole new theatrical experience.

Open Hydrant Theater Company @ The Point's mission is to maintain an ensemble-based theater company in the densely populated, yet under-served, community of the South Bronx. Our purpose is to produce yearly seasons of creative works based largely on, but not limited to, non-traditional, interactive interpretation of Shakespeare's plays, as well as other literary classics and work by new playwrights. Making theatre a family experience is a priority. We are committed to empowering a diverse group of creative artists, especially the youth, whose work is designed to educate, entertain and help revitalize urban communities. Our most recent ensemble collaboritve work includes Shakespeare High, executive produced by Kevin Spacey, Dana Brunetti ( Fifty Shades of Grey, The Social Network, Captain Phillips) and Ronnie Planalp (Film Society of Lincoln Center, The Mountaintop), FutureFest (Festival of New American Musicals) and The We and The I, directed by Michel Gondry(Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind) and the creation of the first ever New York City Drama Teacher's Association Shakespeare Festival presented at The Film Society of Lincoln Center.
